Was the invasion of Iraq about oil? [[WoW info|http://www.waronwant.org/campaigns/corporations-and-conflict/hands-off-iraqi-oil]]
It was about oil, [[says Alan Greenspan|http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,2170602,00.html]]
What of democracy in the UK? It is convenient for our government to suppress protest about the invasion of Iraq. The 1839 Metropolitan Police Act has been used to do this. What of our democratic right to protest to our parliament? Perhaps it is not "progressive" enough for New Labour? Doesn't sit well with the brand? You are gay or maybe bisexual or queer, maybe transgender and possibly polyamorous. Diversity being what it is, you may be something else I haven't listed here.

You are awesome.

You are cool.

Well done for surviving so far.

Welcome to Sheffield Hallam University. We try to offer an inclusive environment here. We celebrate diversity. You can be yourself here.

There is an LGBT society for students. Email LGBTstudents@shu.ac.uk

SHU student Richard O'Dwyer was under threat of extradition to the USA. As far as I can understand it, his alleged crime was to have had links on his website to material which was subject to copyright. In response to this the US authorities decided to treat him as though he was possibly some sort of international terrorist and issued an extradition warrant. Disproportionate R Us! If he had committed a crime he should have been tried in a British court - just my tuppney-worth.

According to the Guardian, 11,000 people a week are being forced to take the government's tests to judge whether they are "fit for work".What does this cost? The tests are implemented by ATOS.

Colin Traynor was an epileptic since birth and subject to grand mal seizures. He was assessed as "fit for work". Before his appeal could be heard, Colin Traynor died from a seizure. After Colin's death, his father said to Huffington post: "The assessment is wrong. There are other people like my son out there with different illnesses, and they are going through the same (thing). People are dying." ([[HuffPost article|http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/09/26/atos-disability-benefits-colin-traynor-epilepsy-_n_1917042.html?1348686269]]).

[[Randeep Ramesh has reported in the Guardian|http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/dec/13/disabled-man-government-court-benefit-test?INTCMP=SRCH]] that Patrick Lynch, a former social care worker who was forced to stop work because of a condition affecting his brain, is seeking a judicial review of the controversial "work capability assessment".

Our government is implementing these injustices in our name. What kind of Britain are we building? Perhaps we are not building, but breaking Britain down?

Democracy is not just voting every four or five years...
